1. Discovering the Problem (Hackathon Brief)

MacroMunch began as a BrainStem Hackathon project, where the challenge was to design a solution that meaningfully improves people’s lives. During brainstorming, we identified a common issue: most nutrition apps are either overwhelming or too generic. Users needed simple, personalized, macro-friendly meal guidance without complicated charts or long onboarding.

2. Defining the Solution

The idea for MacroMunch formed:
A clean, modern app that recommends macro-friendly meals based on a user’s profile, goals, and physical data.
The focus became simplicity, personalization, and a welcoming onboarding experience.

3. Conducting Quick Research

I reviewed competitors, read app-store reviews, and talked with potential users.
Key insights:

  • Onboarding must be extremely simple

  • Users prefer clear CTAs and minimal data entry

  • The interface should feel friendly, fast, and non-intimidating

These insights shaped the core user flow.

5. Building the Final Prototype

I assembled a polished, interactive prototype that showcases a smooth first-time experience—clear actions, organized inputs, and a modern dark UI.
The final design communicates MacroMunch’s purpose clearly:
personalized, macro-friendly meals made simple and approachable.

4. Designing the Experience

I crafted the onboarding flow in Figma, designing screens for welcome, email entry, and profile setup.
My goals:

  • Reduce cognitive load

  • Create a strong visual hierarchy

  • Maintain consistency with MacroMunch’s branding

  • Ensure accessibility and clarity in every step

I iterated with the team during the hackathon to refine wording, spacing, and layout.
